Dem4BIPV Newsletter December 2016 – Shaping the profile of the future BIPV professionals

The report, which is based on the results of a survey with 100 stakeholders from 15 different countries, identifies the key players in the BIPV sector and provides a clear picture of the BIPV education needs in Europe. It also reviews the BIPV market situation and outlook at global and European level and highlights the barriers hindering BIPV deployment.

Buildings in the spotlight of the Clean Energy Package

On the 30th of November 2016, the European Commission released its „Clean Energy for All Europeans“ package which will shape the European Union’s climate and energy legislation beyond 2020. The international partners behind the Dem4BIPV project welcome the proposals in the Clean Energy Package recognizing that buildings play an essential part in Europe’s clean energy transition.

The Dem4BIPV partners believe that BIPV is the optimal method of installing renewable energy systems in urban, built-up areas where undeveloped land is both scarce and expensive. In both new projects and renovations, BIPV is proving to be an effective building energy technology in residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings and structures. It is generally expected that in the next century, photovoltaics will be able to contribute substantially to the mainstream power production, and that through their widespread commercialization, BIPV systems will become the backbone of the zero energy building (ZEB) European target for 2020.

Presentation of the BIPV report at the 14th Austrian Photovoltaics Congress

The project coordinator Wilfried van Sark from the Utrecht University presented the first results of the Dem4BIPV project at the 14th Austrian Photovoltaics Congress on 30 November 2016. His presentation titled ‚On the need for education in the BIPV sector: the Dem4BIPV project‘ is available for download here.

The Dem4BIPV Consortium met in Vienna, Austria

The Dem4BIPV partners met in Vienna on 8 and 9 November 2016 to discuss the progress in the project activities and to fine tune the work programme for the year 2017.

New year, new exciting challenges – Our partner universities in Utrecht, Cyprus and Vienna are working on the development of tailor made courses on BIPV for different university systems. By mid-2017, the project will deliver high-quality didactic content on BIPV for higher education that can be accommodated to different levels of background knowledge and interest. Virtual labs for experimenting with BIPV will be operational in Austria, Cyprus and The Netherlands in 2018.

The Dem4BIPV project receives two Poster Awards

The work of the Dem4BIPV team has been awarded on two occasions with poster prizes for its outstanding and exemplary contribution to conferences: at the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference in the thematic area of ‘PV economics, markets and policies’ in Munich in June 2016, and at the Utrecht University’s International Conference on Sustainability in October 2015. The project partners will continue working with enthusiasm and commitment in the New Year to deliver the best possible results.
