The FH Upper Austria is the clear leader among Austrian universities of applied science and is also among the strongest in research and development in German-speaking countries. In 2016, more than 400 researchers generated €17.34 million in R&D turnover in 16 core areas.
One of these is the research area “Energy” where the main focus lies on development and system integration of new technologies in the sector of renewable electricity and heat. Topics are photovoltaics system technologies as well as electrical solutions for energy storage, mid temperature solar-thermal and chemical heat storage.
In July 2016 the ASiC (Austria Solar Innovation Center) formerly an independent research and development institute in the form of a non-profit organization was integrated in the FH Upper Austria. As a result, the core area of energy was expanded by the knowledge of the research group in the fields of solar energy, heat systems and heat storage as well as energy management.
Twelve additional researchers increased the staff of the research area “Energy” to now 10 professors and 35 researchers. The results of multiple projects are used in teaching of the degree programs “Electrical Engineering”, “Eco Energy”, “Energy Informatics” and “Sustainable Energy Systems” and are a main driver for the success of students at FH Upper Austria.
